“Rule-based horror” movies are in the midst of an international revival. “See it and you die” in Bird Box. “Make a sound and you die” in Quiet Place. Hideo Nakata, director of Japan’s preeminent “rule-based horror” movie The Ring, a movie that terrified audiences worldwide, has now adapted Kyofu Shimbun, the immensely popular 1970s occult comic, as a live action television series!


Shizuru Onoda is a 20 years old college student living in Kyoto.On the very first night of finally living on her own, as she climbs into bed, she hears pounding on her front door. Terrified, she cannot bring herself to open the door, when through the mail slot falls the Terror Newspaper. Next to a childlike drawing is an article: “Three days from now, a woman will leap to her death in Kyoto.”


Three days later, she rides through town, doing her part-time job of food delivery.
As she drives by a building, she hears aloud sound behind her. Turning around, she sees a woman, laying on the ground, blood pouring from her head. Suicide. A jumper. She immediately thinks of the Terror Newspaper.


Another Terror Newspaper arrives at midnight that night.There is another article about a future death...and this time the victim bears the same name as Shizuru’s father.

見たら、死ぬ『バード・ボックス』、音を立てたら、死ぬ『クワイエット・プレイス』など、世界的に“ルール系ホラー”のリバイバルの波がきている昨今、日本の“元祖・ルール系ホラー”『リング』で世界中を震撼させた映画監督・中田秀夫が、１９７０年代に空前のブームを巻き起こしたオカルトマンガ『恐怖新聞』を、大胆に再構築して実写化！

主人公・小野田詩弦（２０歳）は京都に暮らす女子大生。念願の一人暮らしを始めた日の深夜、ベッドに入ろうとすると、玄関の扉を誰かが激しく叩く。怖くて扉を開けるのをためらっていると、扉から差し込まれたのは「恐怖新聞」。
さらに、子供のような稚拙な絵ともに、「三日後、京都市内のとある場所で女性が飛び降り自殺をする」と書かれていた…

三日後、フードデリバリーのアルバイトで京都市内を走る詩弦。とあるビルの前を走り過ぎた次の瞬間、背後で物凄い轟音。振り返ると頭から血を流し、倒れている女。飛び降り自殺だ。瞬間、詩弦の脳裏にあの恐怖新聞がよぎる…
