Everyone’s first gift is from their mother. It is our "birthday" when we come into the world. However,some children do not know the date of their birth. The baby hatch anonymously accepts children whose parents are unable to care for them. It has been 15 years since it was opened at Jikei Hospital in Kumamoto City. Over these years, 159 children have been placed inside the hatch. Some of these children are conflicted because they have no information about their origins and no memories of their mothers. One of the children placed inside the hatch, Koichi Miyatsu, will turn 18 this spring. What kind of life awaited him beyond the hatch's door?

The Birth of a New Knit Brand

We followed the story of birth of new knit brand for 2 years.
What we sell is the most important thing…The director of new project fell in love with the high level of technology.

That day, the project members met for the first time to launch a new knit brand.
The project includes Yoshimasa Hoshiba, the editor-in-chief for a popular fashion website based in Tokyo.
He has been brought out as a brand adviser to help the Niigata project hit the market worldwide.

Niigata is famous place for knit. However knit business has been shrinking and now with the spread of Covid-19, the environment is rather depressing but there's something new happening. A new project has been born and is going well.
There are challenges for the company that has been providing high technology to leading brands.

Onchan goes to Asia!

The show covers closely on a big project in which “Onchan,” the mascot for HTB, brings snow from Hokkaido to Taiwan and Thailand respectively, together with a student from each country. The student from Taiwan made a snowman for the first time ever for her mother at home. With the help of a professional snowman maker in Abira Town, which is famous for snowman making, in the central part of Hokkaido, the student made a 40-cm-tall pretty snowman. Was she able to bring the snowman to Taiwan successfully before it melted away?

Meanwhile, the student from Thailand who is studying in Higashikawa Town in the Northern part of Hokkaido filled a Styrofoam box with snow weighing about 150 kg and brought it to his school back in Thailand. The event was such a blast that a local TV broadcasted it live! Onchan’s unique journey to Taiwan and Thailand with the sincere hope of bringing snow from Hokkaido for everyone to enjoy, which touched the heart of people who saw snow for the first time in their lives – “Onchan Asia e iku!” is totally different from other travel programs. Don’t miss it!

- From the Ijika sea, winter -

Detailed coverage on a town of female divers and fishermen in the Ise-Shima region.

Ijika-cho, Toba, Mie prefecture is a small fishing harbor with a population of less than 500 where people have been living with the blessings of a bountiful sea for generations. Ijika is a town where the “wisdom of life” and the “awe of nature” that ought to be held in Japanese people’s hearts still remain. We have covered this town closely for a year and a half.


Episode 1. YASA YASA - From the Ijika sea, winter –
Ijika-cho, Toba, Mie prefecture, is a town of female divers and fishermen making a living from the harvest of the sea. Due to depopulation and the aging of society, rituals which have been passed from generation to generation are dying. “What should we change and what should remain unchanged”…those are the questions on the minds of the people who conduct the town events and the female divers who face the sea with only their flesh and blood. We witnessed their worries and struggles with how it would turn out.

Episode 2. YASA YASA - Ijika and female divers -
Ijika-cho, Toba, Mie prefecture, is a town of female divers and fishermen. Two young women came to this small town with a population of less than 500 from big cities to become female divers. “Accepting women from big cities to become female divers is unprecedented.” Will those 2 young women be accepted by Ijika’s experienced female divers? This is a documentary program that closely follows their experiences from their audition to their first fishing outing.

Episode 3. YASA YASA - From the Ijika sea -
People have been living with the blessings of a bountiful sea for generations keeping gratitude in mind toward a Japanese sea god. But the town is surely changing due to depopulation and the aging of society.Shinto rituals and regional culture are disappearing one after another…In the midst of circumstance, Ijika people accepted city-born-city-bred young women as successor to aging female divers. How fishermen, female divers and the town are going to be changed? We witnessed their worries and struggles with how it would turn out for 1 year.

Memory of the World Message from Sakubei Yamamoto ~ A miner-painter’s link to the future

世界記憶遺産 山本作兵衛からのメッセージ ~炭鉱絵師がつなぐ未来~

At the age of seven, Sakubei Yamamoto entered a coal mine with his parents; this was the beginning of his 50 year career at the Chikuho mines in Fukuoka prefecture. The mines were pitch black and humid, and the threat of collapse or flooding was never far from the miner’s minds.
After retiring, Sakubei found work as a night guard. From the age of 66, he first began documenting his life and times working at the coal mines in essays and paintings. He left behind a legacy of over a thousand paintings, as well as 70 notebooks and diaries. Of this collection, 697 pieces were chosen for inscription on the ‘Memory of the World’ register. This program examines the life of Sakubei, and the incredibly detailed documents he left behind of the Chikuhocoal mines. What sort of figure was he, and what message does he convey to us through his artwork? Sakubei’s life and art is revealed through the stories told by those connected to him.
It got Certificate of Creative Excellence award at US International Film & Video Festival in 2014


日本一だった石炭生産地、福岡県・筑豊に生まれた作兵衛(1892-1984)は、およそ50年間炭坑夫として働き、その記憶を1000枚以上の絵に残しました。
暑く暗い地の底で石炭を掘る男と女の姿、道具、共同風呂やこどもたちの遊び、縁起や迷信。作兵衛が描いたのは、炭鉱で働く人たちとその家族が暮らす共同社会のすべてです。
ユネスコ(国連教育科学文化機関)は2011年、作兵衛の絵と日記など697点を「世界記憶遺産(※1)」に登録しました。日本での登録第1号です。日本でもまだ北海道釧路で、海底のさらに下から石炭を掘り出しています。
そしてほとんどを輸入に頼っていますが、日本の電気エネルギーの四分の一は石炭による火力発電が担っています。 国民一人あたりにすると、1年間に1トン以上の石炭を今も使っているのです。
番組では、かつて炭鉱で働いていた女性たちの証言、釧路やベトナムの炭鉱の迫力ある採掘現場の映像もまじえ、なぜ名もない山本作兵衛の絵が世界に認められたのか、また作兵衛は未来に何を伝えたかったのかを解き明かしていきます。


在七歲的時候,山本作兵衛在七歲的時候就與他的父母一起進入礦坑,這是他50年礦工生涯的開端。礦坑的生活十分黑暗與潮濕,擔心崩塌的恐懼一直存於礦工的心中。山本作兵衛結束礦工的工作後,繼續工作,擔任夜間的警衛。直到66歲時,他才開始使用煤炭來作畫。作兵衛的一生創作了近千幅的煤炭畫作,其中的667幅畫作會在節目中播放。除此之外,節目中還會介紹山本作兵衛的生平事蹟,以及他在筑豐碳坑的生活。透過本節目,觀眾將能瞭解碳坑畫師-山本作兵衛畫作中的故事。

The Home of Koi -Unspoiled Japanese Landscape Yamakoshi's beautiful four seasons-

コイ棲むふるさと

Yamakoshi Ward (former Yamakoshimura) in Nagaoka City, Niigata Prefecture,
is the origin of “Nishikigoi” carps.
The area experienced devastating damage in the Niigata Chuetsu Earthquake in 2004, requiring the entire village to evacuate. However, fifteen years later,it has been revived as a beautiful village surrounded by the beauty of untouched
Japanese nature.
Yamakoshi has many terraced paddy fields and ponds that are used for farming Nishikigoi.
Masaru Saito (66-year-old) owns a Koi farm in Yamakoshi.
His second eldest son graduated from university and has started helping him at the farm since 2018.
“How are Nishikigoi born?”
“How do they grow?”
“How are their prices determined?”
Over a year, we follow Masaru and his son and their passion for Nishikigoi in the beautiful mountainous scenery of Yamakoshi.
