A symbol of Matsuyama City, Matsuyama Castle is set atop of Mr. Katsutama, the city center, the castle has commanding views of the surrounding area and Inland Sea. Built in the early 1600s, it has unique structures that are designated as important cultural properties, and is one of twelve “original castles”, that is castles that have survived since the end of the feudal period in 1868.
Today, 200 cherry trees on the castle grounds make it one of the best spots in the country to enjoy cherry blossoms in the spring.
