On October 15, 2013, TBS and government-operated Myanmar Radio and Television (MRTV) concluded an agreement to cooperate in the area of news gathering and reporting. As democratization and economic development proceed in Myanmar, more and more Japanese companies are engaging in business ventures in the country, and interest in cultural exchanges between Japan and Myanmar continues to grow. TBS President & Representative Director Toshichika Ishihara visited Myanmar and met with MRTV Director-General U Tint Swe at the MRTV headquarters in the capital city of Naypyitaw.
The two stations agreed to establish a cooperative relationship with the goal of enhancing news gathering and overall news program quality. Under the agreement, TBS and MRTV will share video footage as mutually convenient and cooperate in gathering news and using broadcasting facilities. Ishihara also met with the leaders of private broadcasters in Myanmar. The Myanmar broadcasters agreed to consider prospects for TBS providing content to the stations and cooperating with them on business ventures going forward.
