The Ghost Writer's Wife

ばけばけ

A story based on the life of Koizumi Setsu, wife of the author of Kwaidan (1904), Lafcadio Hearn.

Toki loves ghost stories, which people see as being odd. She also finds the world unfair. This is the Meiji era at the turn of the 20th century —Japan is careening towards industrialization, Westernization, and becoming a “first rate” nation on par with the other players on the international stage. Once proud samurais suddenly find themselves out of employment. Many struggle to adjust, and Toki’s “upper class” samurai clan is no exception. It is Toki who must work to feed the family after her father’s business fails. But Toki’s life takes a turn when she accepts a job as a live-in maid to the new English teacher in town, who is also a foreigner. Discovering their mutual love for ghost stories, the two embark on a road to find a place where they belong. Filled with muted humor and loving attention to a culture and way of life being erased by modern technology, a quirky story of love—especially for ghost stories.

THE WINDOW

A character-based thriller set in the world of elite professional football
- without any actual football. A blue-collar family drama with heart and
soul, intertwined with a conspiracy around the deals, double-crosses and
corruption that take place in this multi-billion dollar global business.
This is THE WINDOW.
Told through an ensemble cast, the series eschews the on-field action, choosing
instead to explore the rich, dark circus surrounding the sport the world loves and
loathes. Lifting the lid not only on the mindsets of players but also the complex
psychologies and motivations of agents, administrators, governing bodies,
broadcasters and journalists in the cut-throat ecosystem of world football.
The series begins at the end of the English Super League (ESL) season.
The champions have been crowned. The relegated teams drop down a
division. And of course, the Transfer Window opens.
Across ten episodes THE WINDOW charts one summer in the life of Jordan
Burdett, a humble 17-year-old Wunderkind with a golden touch who has
gate-crashed Liverpool-based Merseyside Athletic’s first team. Twelve goals
in eight games have put him in a position where the world is at his feet.
Wrestling for control of Jordan’s destiny is Kieran Burdett, his street-smart
big brother, and Romulus Daglis, a waning big-time agent with a dark
heart, working for Sceptre Sports Agency. What starts out as a tug of war
over a young lad’s first professional contract becomes entwined with a
bigger, darker story that threatens the soul of the beautiful game itself.
